A Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) airspace facility in Lagos came under a violent attack by suspected vandals, leaving a police inspector and a private security guard injured, authorities confirmed.
The incident, which occurred on Sept. 25 at about 5:05 a.m. during a heavy downpour, saw about 20 hoodlums storm the installation armed with cutlasses, axes, tiles, and other weapons.
According to security sources, Insp. Dada Fisayo and Insp. Francis Azurunwa, who were on duty at the site, came under attack but managed to repel the invaders. However, another group of vandals exploited the rain and weak points in the compound’s perimeter to cart away two 7.5KVA inverters and several lengths of cables.
Insp. Fisayo sustained injuries but has been treated and was set for discharge, while a private security guard, Mr. Babatunde Makinde, suffered a deep cut to his left hand and is still receiving medical care.
Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer and detectives, have since visited the scene, with investigations and efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen equipment currently underway.
