The Ogun State Police Command has ordered immediate action against officers captured in a viral video assaulting a young man and attempting to handcuff him over shorts allegedly resembling a police uniform.
The video shows the officers restraining the young man, sparking reactions on social media.
Two women who narrated the incident alleged that the officers confronted the man over the material used to make his shorts, claiming it resembled police uniform fabric.
According to the women, residents intervened to challenge the officers’ actions. They further alleged that the officers found nothing incriminating on the young man and that he had committed no offence warranting his arrest.
The women claimed that the officers eventually left the scene without taking the man into custody.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed that the officers involved had been identified.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, had directed that immediate action be taken against them in line with established procedures.
Oluseyi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to accountability, professional discipline and the highest standards of policing, adding that further updates would be provided as developments warranted.
