A female motorist has died in a lone road crash at Mangoro, inward Ile-Zik, in Lagos, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said in a statement on Sunday that preliminary investigations indicated the deceased, who was driving a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 162 HB, lost control of the vehicle.
According to him, the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a roadside building, killing the driver instantly.
Bakare-Oki said the victim was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
He added that LASTMA officers on routine patrol responded promptly to the scene, secured the area with safety cones and managed traffic to minimise disruption.
He said the crash caused temporary traffic congestion, but normal vehicular movement was restored after the agency’s intervention.
The LASTMA boss also said officers from the Afonka Police Post provided security and remained at the scene throughout the evacuation process.
Describing the incident as tragic, Bakare-Oki urged motorists to obey speed limits and drive responsibly, noting that excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes.
“Every journey must be undertaken with prudence, patience and an unwavering commitment to established traffic regulations. No destination is worth the ultimate sacrifice of human life,” he said.
He also advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are mechanically fit before setting out on any journey, stressing that any mechanical fault should be repaired immediately to prevent avoidable accidents.
