No fewer than 184 aspirants have been screened by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primaries for the 40 seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Chairman of the APC Screening Committee, Porok Fomson, disclosed this after the completion of the screening exercise in Lagos, describing the process as successful and hitch-free.
Fomson commended the enthusiasm, resilience and commitment displayed by party members and aspirants throughout the exercise.
According to him, all 184 aspirants who purchased nomination forms and appeared before the committee were successfully screened in line with the party’s constitution and democratic principles.
He revealed that only four aspirants withdrew after purchasing forms, while no candidate withdrew during the screening process.
Fomson clarified that the committee was only responsible for screening aspirants seeking tickets for the Lagos State House of Assembly, noting that governorship and National Assembly screenings were conducted separately in Abuja.
He added that the screening results would be released after the completion of documentation and harmonisation of records.
Kosofe Constituency I recorded the highest number of aspirants with 10 contestants, followed by Epe Constituency II with nine aspirants and Surulere Constituency II with eight.
Other constituencies with high numbers included Ifako-Ijaiye I, Kosofe II and Eti-Osa II, each recording seven aspirants, while Lagos Island II and Somolu I had six aspirants each.
Several constituencies, including Ojo I and Oshodi-Isolo II, recorded only one aspirant each, indicating varying levels of political competition across the state ahead of the APC primaries for the 2027 elections.
