The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force Airwing Command, has launched sustained aerial surveillance patrols across Lagos as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing and enhance public safety.
The maiden air surveillance patrol took place on Monday, February 23, with the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan; Commissioner of Police, Airwing Command, CP Martin Nwogoh; and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olorundare Moshood Jimoh, aboard a Nigeria Police helicopter. The exercise featured rapid, low-altitude maneuvers across Lagos Island and the mainland to demonstrate the reach and responsiveness of the initiative.
Describing the development as a strategic investment in modern security infrastructure, Dr. Ogunsan said the patrols would provide real-time aerial monitoring of flashpoints, deter criminal activity, and improve coordinated responses across the state.
“This maiden flight marks the beginning of a sustained aerial patrol initiative designed to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance rapid response capability, and reinforce the state’s overall security framework,” he said, noting that subsequent flights would be conducted continuously as part of an integrated surveillance strategy.
Ogunsan added that the initiative sends a strong signal of safety and reassurance to residents and businesses, while also warning criminal elements that unlawful activities would not be tolerated. He commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the LSSTF Board for supporting the project.
CP Martin Nwogoh said the patrol demonstrated the transformative potential of aerial support in security operations, while CP Olorundare Moshood Jimoh noted that the flights would strengthen coordination among policing units across Lagos.
The aerial patrols are expected to become a permanent feature of Lagos State’s evolving security architecture.
