NERC: DisCos collected ₦191.86bn from ₦240.71bn June bills

Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria collected N191.86 billion from the N240.71 billion they billed customers in June 2026, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has said.

The commission disclosed this in its June 2026 commercial performance fact sheet for the 11 DisCos.

According to the report, the companies received electricity worth N315.73 billion during the month but billed customers N240.71 billion, leaving a billing gap of N75.02 billion.

NERC said billing efficiency declined to 76.24 per cent in June from 76.87 per cent recorded in May.

The DisCos’ total revenue collection also fell from N208.15 billion in May to N191.86 billion in June.

Their overall collection efficiency stood at 79.71 per cent, representing a 2.61 percentage-point decline from 82.32 per cent recorded in the previous month.

The commission said the electricity distribution industry recorded an overall recovery efficiency of 74.24 per cent, with actual collections averaging N96.63 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), compared with an allowed average tariff of N130.15/kWh.

DisCos’ Performance

Kano DisCo recorded the highest billing efficiency at 84.96 per cent, followed by Eko DisCo with 83.02 per cent and Port Harcourt DisCo with 80.78 per cent.

Yola DisCo had the lowest billing efficiency at 67.12 per cent.

For revenue collection efficiency, Benin DisCo led with 94 per cent, followed by Ikeja DisCo at 89 per cent and Eko DisCo at 88.64 per cent.

Kano DisCo recorded the lowest recovery efficiency at 42.16 per cent, while Kaduna and Jos DisCos posted 46.13 per cent and 55.18 per cent, respectively.

In revenue recovery, Eko DisCo ranked highest at 87.04 per cent, followed by Port Harcourt DisCo at 86.33 per cent and Benin DisCo at 82.23 per cent.

Kaduna DisCo recorded the weakest performance in this category at 37.03 per cent, while Kano and Jos DisCos recorded 44.04 per cent and 51.33 per cent, respectively.
