The Lagos State Government will commence a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe avenue on Monday, October 19, introducing traffic diversions across parts of Victoria Island.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the planned repairs in a statement on Friday, explaining that the work would cover the stretch between Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre and Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ.
To minimise traffic disruption, the government will introduce a contraflow system on the Lagos-bound lane between Samuel Manuwa Street and Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre while rehabilitation work continues on the other lane.
Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp and Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been advised to use Adeyemo Alakija, Adeola Hopewell, Akinbo Savage and Bishop Aboyade Cole streets before connecting to the expressway at School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.
Those travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola Street can access the Coastal Road entrance through IMB and Adetokunbo Ademola Street. They should proceed to Eko Hotel Roundabout and continue through Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Motorists from Bonny Camp may also use Ahmadu Bello Way to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and other designated routes.
Drivers travelling from Eko Hotel towards Civic Centre through Adetokunbo Ademola Street will be redirected through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner towards Sandfield.
Vehicles exiting through the 1004 Estate gate will be required to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street.
Meanwhile, motorists heading from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi have been advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to control traffic, ease congestion and reduce inconvenience throughout the rehabilitation period.
He urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, comply with traffic officials’ instructions and cooperate with the temporary traffic arrangements until the 35-day project is completed.
