The leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly has taken a new twist as member representing Agege constituency ii Mudashiru Obasa claimed that Mojisola Meranda agreed to step down as Speaker during a peace meeting convened by Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders.

Obasa, who was removed as speaker in January, has repeatedly contested his impeachment. Speaking during a television appearance, he insisted that Meranda had openly declared her resignation during a meeting held in Marina, Lagos.

“There was a meeting that took place in Marina where we had in attendance all the party leaders and all the members [of Lagos Assembly] and openly Meranda herself made a statement that she has stepped down and she has resigned,” Obasa stated.

Meranda had replaced Obasa as Speaker following his impeachment, a decision supported by the majority of the Assembly members. However, she has yet to comment on Obasa’s latest claim.

As the political standoff continues, all eyes remain on the Lagos State Assembly for further developments. The House is presently on recess.
