The Labour Party (LP) has strongly criticized the results of Lagos State’s local government elections, calling them a “mockery of democracy.” The LP’s National Caretaker Committee, through spokesman Ken Asogwa, protested on Monday, July 14, 2025, alleging widespread rigging and a lack of fairness in the July 12 polls.
The elections saw the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) win all 57 chairmanship positions and 375 out of 376 councillorship seats. The LP claims this overwhelming victory is due to manipulation, including pre-stuffed ballot boxes and pre-filled result sheets, with alleged collaboration between election officials and the APC.
Despite the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) declaring the elections peaceful and credible, the LP argues the results do not reflect the will of the people and are a bad sign for future elections. The party has urged its supporters to stay calm and demanded LASIEC cancel the results and hold new, transparent elections.
