The Lagos State Police Command has restored peace to Tejuosho Market Phase II, Surulere, after hoodlums mobilized under the guise of protesting a power outage and launched violent attacks in the area.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 18, around 2:30 p.m., when miscreants began attacking traders, damaging goods and property, and targeting security personnel. Police said the hoodlums also attempted to invade a commercial bank within the market, but mobile police officers on guard duty repelled the attack and prevented further damage.

Reinforcements were immediately deployed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, including conventional officers and tactical squads, who dispersed the attackers and arrested 18 suspects caught in the act. Normalcy was quickly restored, allowing traders and customers to resume business activities.

Police confirmed that the arrested suspects are in custody and under investigation, with efforts underway to track down other participants in the unrest. Those found culpable will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.

“The situation is fully under control. We urge Lagosians to go about their lawful businesses peacefully without fear,” CP Jimoh said in a statement, warning that violent attacks on security personnel or property would not be tolerated.

The Command also encouraged residents to report complaints through its emergency hotlines and assured traders and business operators across Lagos that their safety remains a priority.
