In a scandal that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, former Senator Elisha Abbo is currently being held at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja, accused of defiling a 13-year-old secondary school student.
The alleged assault, which has been detailed in harrowing reports, took place on June 29, 2025, at the Senator’s upscale residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
But the case has taken an even more explosive turn with revelations of a high-level cover-up attempt. According to the parents of the minor, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed “Binani,” a prominent former senator and governorship candidate in Adamawa State, personally visited their home to plead with them to bury the scandal.
The parents, in an exclusive conversation with SaharaReporters, painted a picture of pressure and payoffs. They alleged that following the horrific incident, Senator Abbo began a relentless campaign to buy their silence, repeatedly sending money to the girl’s father in a bid to keep the matter out of the public eye.
Senator Abbo, who has become synonymous with controversy, is no stranger to legal trouble. His political career has been marred by scandals, including a highly publicized arrest for physically assaulting a woman at an adult shop in Abuja. More recently, he was accused by a married woman of blackmail using a sex tape.
This latest allegation, however, represents the most serious and disturbing charge yet. The image of a sitting senator allegedly preying on a child, followed by an alleged cover-up involving another political heavyweight, has ignited public fury.
As of Thursday evening, Abbo remained in custody at the FCID, where he is being questioned by detectives. The nation now watches to see if this time, power and money will silence justice, or if the voices of a 13-year-old and her parents will finally be heard.
