The Lagos State Government has concluded the payment of compensation cheques to residents affected by the ongoing Oworonshoki regeneration exercise in Kosofe Local Government Area.

The final batch of payments was made on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the palace of the Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, in the presence of government officials, community leaders, security agencies, and beneficiaries.

Leading the government delegation, the General Manager of the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), TPL Oladimeji Animashaun, said the exercise was a fulfillment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s promise to compensate all deserving affected residents.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu has once again proven to be a promise keeper. This compensation is part of the administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity in the urban renewal process,” Animashaun said.

He commended the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS, Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, and the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, for their dedication in ensuring the smooth implementation of the compensation process.

According to Animashaun, the payments were made in batches, with the first batch receiving their cheques on Thursday, October 23, and the final batch concluding the process on Friday.

Speaking at the event, the member representing Kosofe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ganiyu Babatunde Sanni, described the compensation as the outcome of continuous engagement between the state government and the community.

He explained that the valuation of affected properties was based on agreed parameters, ensuring fairness and transparency.

“I must commend the Lagos State Government for this gesture. As we say, half bread is better than none — this is a fair and mutually agreed settlement for all parties involved,” he said.

Beneficiaries who received their cheques expressed appreciation to the state government for fulfilling its promise, noting that the compensation would help cushion the effects of displacement and support their resettlement efforts.

The Oworonshoki regeneration project is part of the Lagos State Government’s broader plan to revitalize blighted areas and improve living conditions across the state.
