An air force jet has reportedly crashed in a community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
An online news and television platform, shared a video of the incident on its Facebook page on Saturday.
According to reports, two pilots on board the aircraft successfully ejected before the jet went down near the Karabonde community. The crash was said to have been caused by a mechanical fault.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
This latest crash adds to a series of similar accidents involving NAF aircraft over the years.
In 2023, a NAF trainer aircraft crashed in Makurdi, Benue State, injuring both pilots on board.
In 2021, a fighter jet deployed in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents lost radar contact and crashed in Borno State.
Earlier, in 2017, another air force aircraft crashed in Kaduna, killing a pilot instructor.
In 2015, a Dornier-228 aircraft with call sign NAF030 crashed into Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna, resulting in the deaths of all seven passengers.
The recurrence of such incidents continues to raise safety concerns around military aviation operations in the country.
