Governor Abba Yusuf has ordered all appointees eyeing the 2027 elections to resign from their positions.
He set March 31, 2026, as the deadline for resignations to ensure fairness and maintain neutrality in the electoral process.
The directive follows Section 88 (1) of the 2026 Electoral Act, which bars public office holders from engaging in partisan politics while in service.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, said the measure “is aimed at upholding neutrality, accountability, and integrity within the public service, while ensuring a level playing ground for all aspirants.”
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, issued a circular explaining the requirements and instructing full compliance.
All state Ministries, Departments, and Agencies have been directed to publicize the notice widely and monitor adherence.
The governor’s office stressed that the measure will allow aspiring candidates to compete fairly without influence from their current appointments.
