Nollywood crime thriller, Black Market, has set a new Guinness World Records mark after more than 51,000 people gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, for its screening.
A Guinness World Records official confirmed the achievement during the event on Saturday night.
FilmOne, the film’s distributor, also announced the feat on social media, saying more than 51,000 people gathered at a single location to watch the movie.
The event attracted thousands of movie lovers, with long queues forming around Tafawa Balewa Square hours before the screening.
The gates opened at 2pm, followed by a red-carpet session at about 3pm, while the main screening was scheduled for 7pm to 8:30pm.
The event also featured music, food and games, with several celebrities and public figures in attendance.
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, arrived at the venue at about 8:50pm. Among the celebrities spotted were Gabriel Afolayan, Real Warri Pikin and Tomi Ojo.
Black Market was produced by Rixel Studios, Signet Ring Studios and FilmOne Studios and distributed by FilmOne. Fatimah Binta Gimsay directed the film, while Nora Awolowo served as producer.
The movie stars Omowunmi Dada, Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele D Icon, and Uzor Arukwe, among others.
The crime thriller centres on five market women involved in a cross-border smuggling operation amid fuel scarcity and economic hardship. Their lives are thrown into turmoil after the daughter of one of the women is kidnapped.
The record-breaking screening was supported by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as several corporate partners.
