The National Union of Edible Oil Tanker Drivers of Nigeria (NUEOTDN) has suspended its planned strike following interventions by the Federal Government and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The union’s President, Ilias Aperun, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Lagos.
NUEOTDN had earlier threatened to commence industrial action over alleged interference in its operations by the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
Aperun said the government and DSS interventions were aimed at finding a lasting solution to issues affecting the safety and welfare of its members, as well as protecting stakeholders in the edible oil industry.
He said discussions toward resolving the dispute were ongoing, adding that the union suspended the action in the interest of peace, national economic stability and the uninterrupted supply of edible oil.
The union president directed members and stakeholders to suspend all planned industrial action and maintain normal operations pending further communication.
He reaffirmed NUEOTDN’s commitment to protecting public health, the welfare of its members and the legitimate interests of stakeholders while supporting a peaceful resolution of the dispute.
