The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified the enforcement of its cashless payment policy across airports nationwide with the rollout of the FAAN GoCashless Airport Card, a prepaid contactless payment solution designed to make transactions faster, safer and more transparent.
The initiative, powered in partnership with the Paystack, aligns with the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Government’s push to promote electronic payments and accountability in revenue collection.
What is the FAAN GoCashless Card?
The FAAN GoCashless Airport Card is a prepaid contactless card that allows travellers, motorists and other airport users to make quick payments at FAAN revenue points. Instead of paying with cash or regular bank cards, users can simply “tap and go,” with transactions processed in about two seconds.
According to FAAN, the card is designed specifically for airport-related payments and does not attract additional processing charges.
Available Payment Options at Airports
FAAN now provides multiple cashless options at its airports:
- FAAN Contactless Airport Card – The fastest option with no extra transaction charges.
- E-Tags – Suitable for frequent users at access gates.
- VIP E-Tags – Special access solution for approved users.
- Bank debit or credit cards (Chip and PIN) – However, these attract a government processing fee of approximately ₦162 per transaction.
To avoid delays and additional charges, FAAN recommends the use of the Contactless Airport Card or E-Tag options.
Where the Card Can Be Used
The FAAN Airport Card can be used at all FAAN-managed airports nationwide, including Lagos and Abuja. Payment points include:
- Airport access gates
- Car parks
- Lounges
- Other FAAN service points
Once registered, the card works across all FAAN airports without the need for re-registration.
How to Register
Registration is free and takes only a few minutes. However, a one-time card issuance fee of ₦500 is deducted from the user’s wallet to cover the cost of the physical card.
Prospective users are advised to complete registration and fund their wallets before arriving at the airport to avoid delays at access gates.
To register:
- Visit www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng or scan the QR code at the airport.
- Enter your full name and mobile number and verify using the OTP sent via SMS or email.
- Receive a personal virtual account number for funding.
- Transfer a minimum of ₦2,000 from any Nigerian bank to activate the wallet.
- Collect the physical card at any FAAN airport access gate or the Office of the Head of Commercials.
- Link and activate the card via the online dashboard.
Users can register multiple cards under one account and manage payments from a single wallet balance. Cards may also be shared with family members, friends or staff.
Support and Lost Cards
In case of registration issues, users are advised to confirm that correct card details are entered. If problems persist, they can request a replacement at airport access gates or contact support via phone at 0700-227-3226 (0700-CBS-FAAN) or email at gocashlesssupport@faan.gov.ng.
If a card is lost or stolen, users are expected to report it immediately and request a replacement.
International Travellers Included
International visitors to Nigeria are also eligible to register and use the FAAN GoCashless Airport Card. However, the card can only be used at FAAN-managed airports within Nigeria and is not valid outside the country.
Full Enforcement Underway
FAAN disclosed that the GoCashless system has been operational since October and is now being fully enforced in line with Federal Government directives on electronic payment adoption across public services.
Airport users are therefore strongly encouraged to obtain and fund their FAAN Airport Cards ahead of travel to ensure smooth and uninterrupted access to airport facilities.
