The Asoro family of Benin City, Edo State, has issued a public apology following the circulation of a viral video showing an alleged assault involving students of Igbinedion Education Centre.
In a statement dated March 15, 2026, and signed by Mr. Tim Asoro on behalf of the family, the parents expressed deep regret and embarrassment over the involvement of their son, Choice in the incident.
The family described watching the video as one of the most distressing and heartbreaking experiences they have faced as parents, noting that they felt shock, sadness, and profound shame over the conduct displayed.
They offered a direct apology to the student who was affected, acknowledging that no child deserves to be treated in such a manner.
“Our hearts go out to him and to his family. We offer our most sincere apology,” the statement read, adding that while medical reports indicate that the student is physically fine, the family recognises that the incident may have caused emotional distress.
The Asoro family also apologised to the management, teachers, parents, and students of Igbinedion Education Centre, describing the school as a respected institution that has contributed significantly to education and character development.
They said the incident has led to deep reflection within the family, with many sleepless nights spent confronting the seriousness of what occurred.
According to the statement, the parents have since held “very serious and emotional discussions” with their son, who has expressed remorse and regret over his actions.
The family said they do not excuse the conduct and are taking steps to ensure their son receives appropriate guidance and counselling to help him learn from the incident and develop into a more responsible and compassionate person.
They also acknowledged and respected the disciplinary action taken by the school authorities.
The statement concluded with another apology to the affected student, his family, the school community, and members of the public who were disturbed by the video, expressing hope that healing would come to all those affected by the incident
