The Federal Government has banned the use of commercial motorcycles (okada) and tricycles (keke) on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, with the restriction taking effect this week.
The directive was announced by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, who said the measure is aimed at protecting the newly constructed highway from misuse and premature deterioration.
The government also prohibited indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on bridges across Lagos State. In addition, it warned against dumping refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable.
According to Dare, road signs indicating the restrictions have already been installed, while task force officials will be deployed to strategic locations to enforce compliance. He warned that violators would face strict sanctions.
Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure, Dare urged all road users to obey the directives to ensure the road’s safety, durability, and long-term value for Nigerians.
