The Federal Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway ahead of planned repairs on the Kara Bridge outbound Lagos.
In a travel advisory issued on Saturday, the Federal Ministry of Works said the maintenance work would involve replacing damaged expansion joints on the bridge.
The statement, signed by the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, said the repairs are scheduled to commence on March 10, 2026, and will last for about two weeks, ending on March 24.
According to the ministry, motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the period to ease traffic congestion around the work zone.
Drivers travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan have been advised to pass through Shimawa or Mosinmi, while those heading from Lagos Island can take the Epe corridor through Ijebu Ode to access Sagamu, Ibadan or Mowe.
The ministry cautioned motorists that the shortest route may not necessarily be the fastest and urged them to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management directives and drive cautiously around the construction area.
“The Federal Ministry of Works regrets any inconvenience this temporary partial closure may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the motoring public as the Ministry continues efforts to ensure the safety, durability and stability of the nation’s road infrastructure,” the statement said.
Earlier in February, the ministry announced a six-week partial closure of sections of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to enable urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge and Arepo–Punch Bridge.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Michael Komolafe, had explained that the expansion joints on the affected bridges had deteriorated significantly, posing safety risks to motorists and contributing to road crashes.
He apologised for the inconvenience the repairs may cause and assured road users that improved traffic management measures would be put in place to minimise disruption during the rehabilitation work.
