The Federal Government has postponed the planned temporary closure of the Eko Bridge in Lagos State for rehabilitation works until midnight on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kehinde Hamzat, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to Hamzat, the decision followed a strategic meeting between the FRSC and the Federal Controller of Works, Olufemi Dare, where operational plans and public safety measures were reviewed.
He explained that the closure, initially scheduled to begin at midnight on May 12, was shifted to May 19 to allow for better traffic and safety coordination during the rehabilitation of the UBA–Apongbon–Ijora corridor.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes, including UBA–Outer Marina–Third Mainland Bridge–Egbelẹta and other adjoining roads during the closure period.
Hamzat urged road users to remain patient, obey traffic regulations, and comply with diversion signs that would be installed around affected areas.
He added that FRSC officials and other traffic management agencies would be deployed across key locations to minimise traffic congestion and ensure public safety throughout the rehabilitation exercise.
The FRSC also appealed to motorists to plan their journeys ahead and avoid reckless driving around diversion points, while appreciating residents for their cooperation as efforts continue to improve road infrastructure in Lagos.
