Govt bans nursery, JSS3 graduation ceremonies, sets 4-year textbook policy

The Imo State Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced new policies guiding public and private schools across the state, with major changes affecting graduation ceremonies and textbook usage.

According to a statement issued on recently, the Ministry said graduation ceremonies and parties will henceforth only be allowed for pupils completing Primary 6 and students finishing Senior Secondary School (SSS3).

The government emphasized that ceremonies for Kindergarten, Nursery, and Junior Secondary School (JSS3) students have been abolished, in line with the 6-3-3-4 education system. The move, the Ministry explained, is intended to redirect attention toward the true academic milestones of primary and secondary education cycles.
On textbook usage, the government directed proprietors of both private and faith-based schools to strictly adhere to the official list of approved textbooks. It added that each textbook is to remain in use for four years, to promote stability and allow siblings to reuse them across sessions.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to providing quality and functional education to all students in Imo State, stressing that these policies are designed to reduce costs for parents, ensure uniformity, and improve learning outcomes.
