The prime suspect in the murder of retired Ogun State broadcaster, Olakitan Ibiyola Oyesiku, has confessed that he and his accomplices killed her in a bid to raise money to rent an apartment.

Oyesiku, popularly known as Aunty Kitan, and her 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, were brutally murdered at her residence in Agodo village, Kobape, Abeokuta, on June 21, 2026. Her Lexus RX 330 was also stolen during the attack.

Speaking after his arrest, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Phillips admitted that he, alongside Shakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho, carried out the robbery and killings.

> “She didn’t pay us well when we worked for her. Shakirudeen and I needed more money to rent an apartment, so we planned the attack,” he said.

Olajuwon disclosed that they wore masks and forced the security guard to grant them access into the house before killing him inside the security post with a hammer found on the premises, while his accomplice had rented a cutlass.

He further revealed that they collected Oyesiku’s car keys before fleeing with her vehicle, which was later recovered by the police with its number plates removed and hidden inside the car.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said investigators also recovered a handwritten note left at the scene, along with other exhibits, including a broken hammer, cutlass, plank and black pen.

Police arrested the three suspects following intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations, with Olajuwon apprehended at a construction site in Ibara, Abeokuta.

The case has drawn comparisons with the 2023 murder of former CBN staff member Kehinde Fatinoye and his wife, who were killed by theiriver and accomplices in Abeokuta. The perpetrators were convicted and sentenced to death in 2025.
