The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to suspend ongoing publicity and preparations for the proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise.
The commission had earlier announced plans to commence the exercise on April 13, 2026, as part of efforts to update the voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections. Preparatory steps had already been outlined, including deployment of personnel and readiness of voter enrolment devices.
According to a notice signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC’s secretary, the commission has now instructed RECs to put all arrangements on hold pending further directives.
INEC also disclosed that its previously scheduled physical meeting with RECs on April 9 will now be conducted virtually via Zoom, with commissioners advised to remain in their respective states and await further communication.
The commission expressed regret over any inconvenience caused, assuring stakeholders that updates will be provided in due course.
