The Kano government has deployed motorcycles to strengthen tuberculosis screening efforts across hard-to-reach communities in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Yusuf, announced the initiative during the World Tuberculosis Day commemoration held on March 24.
He said the strategy will expand early detection and limit transmission by taking screening services directly to residents in underserved areas.
Kano currently runs 1,391 tuberculosis testing and treatment centres across its 44 Local Government Areas, supporting its public health response.
Yusuf stated that the programme “is designed to take testing services directly into hard-to-reach communities in the state.”
He noted that health workers will use the motorcycles to access remote settlements, conduct screenings, and link patients to care without delay.
The state government also provides free tuberculosis treatment for patients throughout the six-month medication period.
The move strengthens ongoing efforts to reduce infection rates and improve access to essential healthcare services across Kano.
