The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Lagos has moved to consolidate its succession plans ahead of the 2027 elections, with the party’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC) unanimously endorsing Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as its consensus governorship candidate.
The decision followed a series of consultations among key stakeholders within the Lagos APC, culminating in a meeting at the State House in Marina where party elders formalised their position. Prominent figures, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, were part of the leadership bloc that backed the move.
GAC chairman Tajudeen Olusi affirmed the council’s stance, describing Hamzat as the party’s preferred choice and stressing a united front among members. The endorsement signals early political alignment within the APC as it seeks continuity and strategic advantage in maintaining its dominance in Lagos State.
