The Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) has served contravention notices and marked buildings encroaching on high-tension power line right-of-way in the Alagbado/Oke-Odo axis of Lagos State.
The enforcement and sensitisation exercise, carried out last Tuesday, followed directives from the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olumide Oluyinka. The operation focused on addressing physical planning infractions along the AIT Road corridor.
Representing the General Manager of LASISMA, TPL Daisi Oso, TPL Emmanuel Seyi Ogunyemi led the team that served notices on occupants within the affected corridor and marked structures found to be encroaching on the high-tension right-of-way.
Property owners were directed to set back their buildings away from the high-tension corridor in compliance with safety and planning regulations. Officials stressed that the move was necessary to safeguard lives and property, reduce environmental hazards, and ensure adherence to the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019 (as amended).
Speaking during the exercise, Ogunyemi reiterated the agency’s commitment to proactive monitoring and enforcement, noting that buildings constructed under or too close to high-tension lines pose serious safety risks to residents and the wider community.
The LASISMA team also met with the Chairman of the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, Abiodun Jimoh Ejigbadero, to strengthen collaboration on land use compliance and sustainable development within the council area.
Ejigbadero pledged his administration’s readiness to work closely with LASISMA and other relevant agencies to ensure orderly development and improved urban aesthetics across the LCDA.
The enforcement forms part of LASISMA’s ongoing efforts to uphold planning standards in informal urban and incidental open spaces, aimed at promoting a safer and more organised Lagos.
