The Lagos State Government has named a newly completed 105-bed Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC)—the largest of its kind in Nigeria—after the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The state-of-the-art facility, located in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, who represented the First Lady. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries were also in attendance.
Executive Chairman of the LCDA, Princess Samiat Bada, said the PHC is a comprehensive medical facility comprising over 25 specialised units.
“It features a mini-theatre with precision equipment, a radiology room with an automated ECG system, a fully equipped intensive care unit (ICU), and international-standard wards,” Bada said.
She explained that the facility was named after Senator Tinubu to honour her exemplary leadership and impactful contributions to national development.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the LCDA chairman for her dedication to grassroots development and described the facility as a significant milestone aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This is not just a health centre; it is a monumental investment in the lives of our people—especially the indigent and vulnerable,” he said. “We are proud that such development is coming from the third tier of government.”
He urged the Lagos State Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies to provide the necessary support for the efficient operation and management of the facility.
In her remarks, the First Lady described the project as a “beacon of hope” and a vital step in ensuring healthcare access for all Nigerians.
“I am informed that this facility includes a 105-bed capacity with over 25 specialised units, a dedicated family health unit, and a fully functional theatre and emergency response system,” she said.
“It aligns with our Renewed Hope Agenda to make quality healthcare accessible, particularly for women, children, and the elderly—not as a privilege, but as a right.”
She called on health workers, stakeholders, and community leaders to take full ownership of the centre and ensure its sustainability.
Senator Tinubu also commissioned an additional 30-bed Primary Healthcare Centre in the Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA of Lagos State.
