The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a pastor accused of defiling two daughters of a church member in the Isolo area of the state.
The suspect, who is reportedly the founder and General Overseer of the church, was arrested following a petition dated July 28 by the victims’ father.
According to a police source, the pastor allegedly began having sexual relations with the elder daughter when she was 13 and continued until she turned 16 and gained admission to a university.
The case reportedly came to light after the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the younger sister, aged 14, on two occasions.
Police said the suspect allegedly used manipulative religious teachings to gain the younger girl’s trust, in a pattern similar to what he allegedly employed with her elder sister.
Following the younger daughter’s disclosure to her parents, the elder sister also opened up about the alleged abuse.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, subsequently directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, to investigate the allegations.
The investigation is being handled by the Gender Section of the SCID under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Dayo Akinbisehin.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended and allegedly confessed to the offences.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court upon its completion.
