The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBSE) has launched an investigation into a viral video alleging inappropriate content in a nursery school English language textbook.

In an official statement, the Ministry said it became aware of the circulating video posted by a concerned parent on social media and has taken immediate steps to address the issue. The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has directed a full investigation into the matter.

Preliminary findings by the Ministry indicate that the textbook in question is not among those reviewed, approved, or recommended by the Lagos State Government for use in public or approved private primary schools. Authorities also revealed that the school featured in the video is located in Ojo Local Government Area of the state.

The Ministry stressed that the textbook is not part of its approved instructional materials and confirmed that both the school and the publisher involved have been identified for further investigation and possible sanctions.

Reassuring the public, the Ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards in education, noting that only age-appropriate and morally sound materials aligned with state guidelines are permitted in schools.

Permanent Secretary, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, also emphasized that all school administrators and proprietors must strictly adhere to the government’s approved list of textbooks to protect the academic and moral development of pupils.
