The Lagos State Government has sealed a property located at No. 5 Manuwa Street, Ikoyi, for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into a nearby canal through a non-functional sewage treatment plant.
The enforcement action was carried out on Wednesday by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office following complaints from residents and investigations that confirmed the environmental violations.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on his official X account, stating that the property had been sealed over the “deliberate and continuous discharge of untreated sewage into the canal via a non-functional and moribund sewage treatment plant.”
He added that the premises was also kept in an unsanitary condition, resulting in foul odour, environmental pollution and potential public health risks.
According to Wahab, the enforcement followed public complaints and subsequent investigations, which established that the property was in breach of the state’s environmental regulations.
He urged residents and property owners to comply with approved wastewater management practices, warning that violators would face sanctions and possible prosecution under Lagos environmental laws.
The commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to strict enforcement of environmental regulations to safeguard public health and maintain a clean, safe and sustainable environment across Lagos.
