The Lagos State Government has sustained its joint enforcement operation along the Badagry Expressway, with the exercise entering its ninth day and teams now working around the FESTAC Gate axis as part of the ongoing clearance of illegal squatters, shanties and makeshift structures from the Volks to Iyana Iba corridor.

The operation is being carried out in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive on zero tolerance for illegal occupation of road medians. It is being jointly executed by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Task Force, Mobile Police (MOPOL), and military personnel.

The enforcement teams have continued to systematically dismantle illegal structures and evacuate large volumes of refuse that had accumulated along the road median, which authorities say had become a haven for squatters and a source of environmental degradation, public disorder and security concerns.

Officials disclosed that although the operation initially met resistance from some miscreants, security personnel swiftly brought the situation under control without any casualties, allowing the exercise to continue uninterrupted. Enforcement personnel remain on the ground to ensure the complete clearance of the corridor and prevent a return of illegal occupants.

The sustained exercise forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to reclaim public infrastructure and restore road medians to their intended use. It also aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s directive, issued on June 27, 2026, which reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance policy against encroachment on road medians, illegal parking and other unlawful activities along the Badagry Expressway.

According to the government, the ongoing operation is aimed at addressing growing concerns over traffic safety, environmental pollution, public nuisance and security risks along one of Lagos’ busiest transport corridors.

The state said the collaboration among LAWMA, KAI, LASTMA, the Task Force, MOPOL and the military underscores its coordinated approach to environmental restoration, urban renewal and public safety, adding that enforcement teams will continue to monitor the corridor to ensure the gains of the operation are sustained.
