The Lagos State Government has trained more than 1,000 students on the proper use of emergency toll-free lines 767 and 112 as part of efforts to strengthen public safety awareness.
The sensitisation programme, held at State Junior High School, Oyewole in Agege, was organised by the Lagos State Command and Control Centre (LSCCC).
According to a statement by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Yemisi Sule, the initiative is aimed at promoting emergency preparedness and encouraging responsible use of emergency services, particularly among young people.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding safety education across schools and communities, noting that the programme was designed to equip students with life-saving knowledge.
Sule explained that the General Manager of LSCCC, Femi Giwa, was represented at the event by Adeyinka Adeeso, Director of Administration and Human Resources.
Students were taught how to remain calm during emergencies, provide accurate location details, and report incidents promptly. They were also cautioned against making hoax calls, which could delay urgent assistance.
Some of the students expressed appreciation for the training and pledged to share the knowledge with their families and peers. Educational materials were also distributed to reinforce safety awareness beyond the classroom.
The school’s Principal, Olabimpe Balogun, commended the initiative, noting that it would enhance safety consciousness among students. She added that the school has safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and sand buckets to handle emergencies.
