The Lagos State University (LASU) will reopen for academic and social activities on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, following the suspension of an industrial action by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of staff unions.
The university’s Senate, at its meeting on Monday, August 11, approved the resumption date after receiving updates from the Vice-Chancellor on the outcome of a meeting between the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the JAC on Thursday, August 7.
According to the Senate’s resolution, students will be allowed to return to hostels across all LASU campuses in Ojo, Ikeja, and Epe from Wednesday, August 13. The 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations, which were suspended due to the strike, are scheduled to commence on Monday, August 18, 2025.
The JAC had embarked on the industrial action on Thursday, July 31, prompting the Senate to suspend all academic and social activities during a virtual meeting on Saturday, August 2. The strike was called off on Tuesday, August 12, following what was described as a “productive” negotiation with the state government.
Students have been urged to return promptly and prepare for the examinations.
