The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine, cloudy skies and thunderstorms across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday, warning residents in coastal areas to prepare for possible flash flooding.
According to the agency’s three-day weather outlook, northern states will experience mostly sunny conditions with patches of clouds, while thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina and Kano at various times during the forecast period.
In the North-Central region, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are expected across states including Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Southern states, including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, are expected to experience widespread rainfall, with moderate to heavy showers likely over much of the region.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms and advised residents to secure loose objects, avoid driving or walking through floodwaters, disconnect electrical appliances during storms, and stay away from tall trees.
The agency also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe flight planning and encouraged the public to stay updated through its regular weather forecasts.
