One person has been confirmed dead following a multiple-vehicle crash involving a TATA bus and a mini bus at the Independence Tunnel inward Maryland along Ikorodu Road, Lagos.
The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday and claimed the life of the mini bus driver, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
In a video shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, LASTMA said emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene.
“A multiple road crash involving a TATA bus and a mini bus occurred at the Independence Tunnel inward Maryland,” the agency stated. “The incident resulted in the death of the mini bus driver.”
LASTMA confirmed that a tow truck was dispatched to evacuate the damaged vehicles, while its Rescue and Recovery Team managed vehicle removal and traffic control to minimise disruption.
In a related update, the agency disclosed that transloading operations were ongoing after drums reportedly fell onto the roadway at the Independence Tunnel en route to Ojota.
“The transloading of the drums that fell on the road at the Independence Tunnel en route to Ojota is underway, and our personnel are strategically positioned to ensure traffic flow is unhindered,” LASTMA added.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution while travelling through the area as clearance and safety operations continue.
