A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Chief Sam Onuigbo, has outlined the reasons behind his bid for the Abia Central Senatorial seat.

He said his decision centres on strengthening Nigeria’s economy and political system through quality legislation and responsible leadership.

Onuigbo spoke in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, where he explained that he would draw from his background in governance to deliver effective representation.

He dismissed personal interest as a motive, stating, “The mandate I seek as senator is not for selfish aggrandisement.”

The APC stalwart expressed confidence in his capacity, saying, “I am not only doubly qualified to serve our zone as senator, but also confident to bring you honour and accomplished representation.”

He tied his ambition to broader national goals, adding, “My journey to the Nigerian Senate is to invest my rich experience and reflect hope as encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda of our leader.”

Onuigbo said the country needs committed leaders with the ability to develop laws that will improve its global standing.

He cited his time in the House of Representatives, where he sponsored the Climate Change Bill that later became law, as proof of his legislative impact.

He also referenced infrastructure efforts he facilitated, including road rehabilitation projects and the design of a dualisation project in Abia.

He added that he backed the construction of a Federal Secretariat in the state, as well as erosion control interventions in parts of Umuahia South Local Government Area.
