PDP dismisses leadership vacuum claims

The PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed has dismissed claims suggesting a leadership vacuum within the party, insisting that its leadership structure remains stable despite a recent Supreme Court ruling.

He made the clarification during a press briefing held in Abuja, where he addressed growing concerns over the court’s decision on the party’s internal dispute.

Mohammed explained that the Supreme Court judgment only dealt with the legality of the Ibadan convention and did not interfere with the current leadership or the National Working Committee.

He stated that Abdulrahman Mohammed remains the legitimate National Chairman of the party, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu still functioning as National Secretary.

According to him, the court nullified the disputed convention and dismissed an appeal linked to the Turaki-led group, but did not pronounce any suspension or expulsion of party officials.

He emphasized that no court proceedings ever considered leadership removal, as those matters were not part of the case presented at any judicial level.

Mohammed stressed that the judgment focused strictly on the validity of the November Ibadan convention and left the party’s internal leadership intact.

He maintained that the PDP continues to operate without interruption and rejected suggestions that any vacuum exists within its hierarchy.

He accused a faction within the party of misinterpreting the ruling in order to create confusion and mislead the public.

He also dismissed claims that the Board of Trustees had assumed control of party affairs, saying the PDP constitution does not grant such powers to the BoT.

He questioned the authority of Senator Adolphus Wabara to speak on behalf of the BoT, noting that his tenure had already expired.

He identified Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as the legitimate head of the party’s Board of Trustees.

Mohammed urged Wabara to refrain from making further statements on party matters, warning against actions he described as unconstitutional.

He further advised the media and the public to rely on verified facts, reiterating that the PDP remains united under its established leadership structure.
