Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, have recorded a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime with the arrest of seven suspects linked to multiple cases of murder, armed robbery, theft, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, and criminal conspiracy.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh.

According to a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afolayan Gbenga, the arrests followed a targeted intelligence-led operation conducted on March 3, 2026, by the Zonal Puff Adder team. The operation initially led to the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect, Fawas Opeyemi Alarape, also known as “Karube,” who is alleged to be involved in several violent crimes.

Information obtained from the suspect prompted a follow-up raid on a notorious criminal hideout known among gang members as “Lion’s Den,” located on Adeleye Street in Orile Iganmu, Lagos. During the operation, five additional suspects were apprehended, while another suspect was later arrested at Whitesand in the same area.

Items recovered during the raid include a locally fabricated cut-to-size shotgun, four cutlasses, a knife, a claw hammer, live and spent cartridges, as well as charms believed to be used for criminal activities.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to involvement in several killings. One of the incidents involved the murder of a tricycle rider at Shitta Under Bridge in Surulere, where the victim was robbed of his tricycle and fatally shot. Police said the crime was carried out in collaboration with an accomplice who is currently at large.

The suspects also admitted responsibility for other killings that occurred in February 2026 within the Orile Iganmu area.

All suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities say they will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.

AIG Jimoh commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Lagos and Ogun States.

The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
