Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that he has no plans to leave the party despite recent high-profile defections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Rhodes-Vivour said his decision to remain in the ADC is driven by conviction, long-term vision, and grassroots engagement—not political convenience.
His stance comes amid the recent moves by Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who both joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC), triggering shifts within the opposition landscape.
“I want to make it clear that I am staying in the African Democratic Congress. It is the platform we have built, the ground we have fought on, and the vehicle that can take us to victory,” he said.
Rhodes-Vivour emphasised that his choice is rooted in principle rather than personal ambition, noting that true political change requires persistence and sacrifice.
He acknowledged that remaining in the party may come at a cost but insisted that decisions guided by conviction are ultimately worthwhile.
“That Lagos is not a fantasy. It is a choice. And it requires people who are willing to stay and do the work, even when staying is hard,” he added.
He concluded by reaffirming his resolve to continue building within the ADC, describing the moment as critical and pledging not to back down.
