Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has outlined four major gains his successor will inherit as his administration prepares for a transition to a new government in Lagos State.
Speaking at the 19th Executive-Legislative Parley held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, the governor said his administration is working on a comprehensive Legacy and Transition Bill aimed at institutionalising key policy frameworks into permanent governance structures.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the proposed legislation would ensure continuity by enabling future administrations to build on established systems, rather than starting afresh. According to him, the next government will inherit not only completed infrastructure projects but also efficient governance systems.
The governor identified four commitments his administration will deliver before the end of its tenure. These include the completion and commissioning of major transport infrastructure projects, the presentation of the Legacy and Transition Bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly, the convening of a Citizens’ Assembly to promote inclusive governance, and the publication of a comprehensive State of Lagos Report.
He disclosed that the State of Lagos Report, expected by the third quarter of the year, will provide a transparent, data-driven account of the administration’s achievements over the past seven years, as well as highlight areas requiring further attention.
Sanwo-Olu assured residents that no project of strategic importance would be abandoned, stressing that his administration’s final full year would focus on delivering all outstanding infrastructure.
The governor also cautioned political office holders against distractions as the transition period approaches, warning that political pressures could undermine institutional focus. He urged them to remain committed to governance and service delivery.
Commending the Lagos State House of Assembly, Sanwo-Olu noted that legislative support had been crucial to the success of his administration. He highlighted the passage of key laws, budget approvals, and oversight functions as instrumental in advancing major government programmes, including transport reforms and infrastructure financing.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, said the annual parley has, for nearly two decades, served as a platform for strengthening collaboration among political stakeholders in the state.
The three-day event brought together members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, National Assembly members of Lagos origin, leaders of the All Progressives Congress, the Governance Advisory Council, and top civil servants.
