Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has disclosed plans to seamlessly integrate a proposed state police system into the state’s existing security framework as part of efforts to curb rising insecurity and improve law enforcement coordination.
According to the governor, state policing would enable faster, more responsive, and locally driven security operations, with policing activities linked directly to Lagos’ command-and-control centres for real-time decision-making and oversight.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the initiative would harmonise intelligence gathering, surveillance, and operational resources across key agencies, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), to ensure efficient information sharing and coordinated responses.
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu supports the move toward state policing and is committed to driving the necessary reforms to make it a reality nationwide.
Beyond structural reforms, the governor said his administration is deepening security through public-private partnerships, technology-driven modernization, and stronger community engagement. He added that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund has continued to attract major donations, while the construction of a new headquarters is underway to further strengthen the state’s security infrastructure.
