UNICEF has thanked the Kebbi State Government for approving ₦761 million counterpart funds to boost health, nutrition, and education services in the state.
The UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Mrs. Wafaa Saeed-Abdelatef, gave the commendation on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi during a courtesy visit to Deputy Governor Alhaji Abubakar Umar-Tafida.
She explained that the funds would provide nutrition supplies, improve immunisation, expand access to clean water, and support vulnerable groups, including communities affected by floods and insecurity.
She added that UNICEF would match the contribution through its Child Nutrition Fund, making more supplies available for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition.
Saeed-Abdelatef noted that Kebbi’s social health insurance scheme already benefits over 10,000 vulnerable people and described the state’s commitment to healthcare and education as globally recognized.
She assured that UNICEF would continue partnering with Kebbi to promote child welfare and development.
In response, Umar-Tafida reaffirmed the government’s commitment to work with development partners to create better opportunities for children and vulnerable citizens through quality healthcare, nutrition, and education.
