Zenith Bank has confirmed that it suffered a cyberattack in which hackers gained access to limited customer information, including email addresses and phone numbers.
In a notification sent to customers on Tuesday, the bank said the breach was part of a wider global cyberattack targeting organisations across different sectors.
Despite the incident, Zenith Bank assured customers that its core banking systems and digital channels remain secure and fully operational.
The lender said it immediately activated its incident response and cybersecurity protocols after detecting the breach and has launched an investigation into the attack.
As a precaution, the bank urged customers to remain alert for phishing emails, text messages and phone calls, warning them never to disclose passwords, PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or other security credentials.
Zenith Bank reiterated its commitment to safeguarding customer information and said investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the incident.
The breach comes nearly two years after Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) reported an attempted compromise of its website domain, insisting at the time that customers’ data was not affected.
It also follows a recent warning by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which alerted Nigerians to fraudulent emails and messages by cybercriminals attempting to steal personal information through fake communications purportedly issued by the apex bank.
