Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defence, has declared that he has permanently shelved his ambition to become governor of Lagos State, saying his priority is now to mentor the younger generation.
Speaking on Mic On podcast hosted by Channels Television’s Seun Okinbaloye, the 66-year-old APC chieftain said the time had come for experienced leaders to guide young Nigerians rather than seek elective office.
Obanikoro, who contested the 2007 Lagos governorship election on the platform of the PDP, maintained that he believed he won the poll but accepted the outcome, insisting he had no regrets about challenging Bola Tinubu’s political structure at the time.
Now a member of the APC and recently appointed Director-General of Obafemi Hamzat’s 2027 governorship campaign, Obanikoro said mentoring the next generation remains his foremost political mission.
