Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, saying the president no longer has the capacity to effectively lead the country.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, Obi said Tinubu appeared exhausted and should retire to allow a more energetic and committed leader take over the nation’s affairs.
“The Bola Tinubu that was governor is not the one that is president today. He’s tired. He should be allowed to retire in peace and go home,” Obi said, adding that Nigeria needed leadership capable of addressing its mounting challenges.
Obi also expressed concern over worsening poverty, insecurity and hunger, accusing political leaders of failing to focus on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
Citing recent projections by the World Bank and the World Food Programme, he said rising poverty, food insecurity, kidnapping and the growing number of out-of-school children should dominate national discourse ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to him, the next election should be driven by solutions to Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges rather than political distractions.
