Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday joined residents in celebrating food, culture and creativity as he participated in cooking and tasting seafood rice with stir-fried spinach at the 2025 Lagos Food Festival.
The festival, organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, was held at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, with the theme “Taste Beyond Borders.” The event featured music, exhibitions and a wide range of local and international delicacies, drawing families and food lovers from across the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the festival was designed to bring families together, promote cultural exchange and showcase Lagos’ diverse food heritage. He noted that the state government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, has empowered numerous entrepreneurs in the food sector over the past six years while strengthening interventions in agriculture and food security.
According to the governor, the festival provides an opportunity for innovators in the food business to gain exposure, grow their enterprises and tell the Lagos story through cuisine.
Also on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu attended an art exhibition in Lagos where about 40 artists created wall paintings, which he described as a reflection of Lagos’ vibrant creativity. He said the state remains committed to encouraging talents across different professions to ensure Lagos continues to be a welcoming home for all.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Abisola Olusanya, described the Lagos Food Festival as a celebration of the state’s culinary culture, traditions and diversity. She said the event recognises and promotes food value-chain actors while providing a platform for talents to gain visibility and thrive.
The festival attracted members of the State Executive Council and House of Assembly, current and former public office holders, traditional rulers, celebrity chefs, youths, vendors and students from tertiary institutions. Several participants showcased their culinary skills and won prizes during the event.
