A man identified simply as Basit, who had reportedly returned to Nigeria from abroad for his wedding, has allegedly been beaten to death in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, September 2, in the Patey area of the community.
According to eyewitnesses, Basit was driving when his vehicle allegedly hit a male resident who was attempting to cross the road. Rather than stopping to assist the victim, he allegedly drove away.
The incident reportedly angered some residents, who chased after him and caught up with him. The residents allegedly attacked and severely beat him, leaving him unconscious with serious injuries to his head.
Basit was subsequently taken away for medical attention but reportedly died from his injuries.
He was said to have been preparing for his wedding, scheduled to hold later this month, before the incident occurred.
The Lagos State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
